U.S. Tax Specialist
Job Type: Independent Contractor / Part-Time or Full-Time
Employer: MyBookly
Primary Location: Remote (US-based clients)
Do you live and breathe IRS code? Do you get a quiet thrill out of finding a deduction someone else missed? MyBookly is looking for a U.S. Tax Specialist to handle returns and tax strategy for our digital asset and crypto-native client base.
What will your typical day look like?
MyBookly's tax team is actively seeking a sharp, detail-driven tax specialist to manage compliance and planning work for U.S.-based clients, many of whom have complex situations involving crypto, DeFi, staking, and digital asset income. You'll work independently and remotely as part of a small, high-output team.
Tasks will include:
- Preparing and reviewing federal and state individual and business tax returns (1040, 1120, 1120-S, 1065)
- Advising clients on tax treatment of crypto transactions including capital gains, staking income, mining, and DeFi activity
- Identifying tax-saving strategies and proactively flagging opportunities to clients, not just filing what's handed to you
- Responding to client questions clearly and promptly, translating tax complexity into plain language
- Staying current on IRS guidance related to digital assets and flagging relevant changes to the team
- Collaborating with bookkeeping and client services on document collection and deadline tracking
Compensation is on an hourly basis, at $[X] - $[X]/hour, based on experience, with potential for return-based or retainer-based pay structure once ramped up.
We are currently recruiting for individuals available starting [timeframe], with the possibility of ongoing seasonal or year-round work depending on performance and capacity.
About the team
As an independent contractor, you'll work directly with MyBookly's founder and core team. We're built specifically for crypto and digital asset clients who need a tax professional who actually understands their world, not someone googling "what is staking" mid-call.
Enough about us, let's talk about you
You are someone with:
- CPA, EA, or equivalent U.S. tax credential (required)
- Minimum 2-3 years preparing U.S. individual and/or business returns
- Direct experience with crypto/digital asset tax treatment (required, not a nice-to-have)
- Strong written and verbal communication, comfortable explaining tax concepts to non-experts
- Proficiency with tax software (e.g. Drake, ProSeries, UltraTax) and willingness to learn our stack
- Self-driven with strong attention to detail and ability to manage deadlines independently
- Comfortable working asynchronously with a remote, fast-moving team
Please also note the following:
- Background check required as part of onboarding
- Government-issued ID verification required during interview process
- Must be legally authorized to prepare U.S. tax returns
- Availability required during peak filing season (Jan-Apr) is a strong asset
